NEW LOCATION: We are currently working on our new location and are very close to finalizing it. Unfortunately, as I am writing this, we have run into a minor zoning issue. So, you will be receiving a postcard with directions to the drop off location sometime in December.

Every year I read over the entry forms to see if anything new has been added and highlight those items in this newsletter. I also reiterate information which seems to be overlooked on a regular basis. PLEASE READ and remember, we will enforce rules.
RULES AND CATEGORY CHANGES from last year !!!!! ð There were so many changes last year that it is almost like a brand new art competition. Animation is separated from Film & Video.....there are 5 design categories and Jewelry is one of them.....Digital Photography can be included in Photo Portfolios, but remember any digital photograph which has been heavily altered must be submitted under Computer Art and cannot be included in a Photo Portfolio....All books should be submitted under Mixed Media. If you have any questions, please call. If I can’t answer it, someone in New York can. Please read category descriptions carefully. ð The only regional change will be in the PRODUCT DESIGN category. Because there was such a broad range of media represented in this category, we will make every effort to recognize them and not to have; for example, batik competing against stained glass. If you want more info on how we plan to do that, please feel free to call me.
ENTRY FEE INCREASE ð Entry fees must be increased this year and it is my goal to keep the fees at this level for a good long while. The new fees are $2 per individual entry and $10 per portfolio entry.
Reminders ð Paintings on canvas get lost - because the entry form falls off - please write the student and school name on the stretcher with a sharpie. All other work must be additionally labeled on the back (directly on the mounting board) in case entry forms fall off. Please review item #2 under ‘How do I Prepare My Work?’ in the entry information. ð Any pastel or charcoal drawings should be covered in acetate to prevent smudging or damaging someone else’s work. If the work is matted, only the window of the mat needs to be covered in acetate. ð Photography Portfolio Size Restrictions - All photos must ‘fit’ in a 24” x 36”inexpensive hardcover portfolio. We have been asked to send work inside a hardcover portfolio. Do not submit Photography Portfolios in ‘handled’ portfolios. ð Cardboard or foamcore will be required for backing on work. If mats are used, they should be black or white only. Any work without corrugated cardboard or foamcore backing will not be accepted until it does!!!!!! ð Make certain that individual entry forms are attached to the back of each portfolio entry, as well as including a portfolio entry form with each portfolio. ð Don’t forget to ID the entries with your numbers. See enclosed description. If your school does not have an ID number on the list, you will need to add that when you deliver your work. Make sure you have allocated time to do this. ð Art Portfolios must include 3 drawings (check the entry blank for a description of the criteria for the drawing category.) ð Weight and size restrictions need to be checked, including portfolio pieces. These restrictions are clearly marked on the entry information. If UPS won’t take it neither will we.

KNOWLEDGEWORKS CONTINUES SUPPORT Last year many pieces were selected by representatives of KnowledgeWorks Foundation to be installed in an exhibition at their offices in downtown Cincinnati. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their work in another venue. KnowledgeWorks frames the art and has a very nice opening for students, their family and friends. We look forward to this continued opportunity and look forward to their selections this year.
ARTWORKS WANTS YOU AGAIN! Artworks will once again send out information in the winners’ packets regarding their program. A special thanks to Artworks for their outstanding contribution to young artists in the Greater Cincinnati area. A ‘Scholastics’ thanks for mailing the winners’ letters for us...
STUDENTS DELIVERING WORK We are very much in favor of using this as a learning experience, BUT students who come without their teachers are usually not aware of the procedure involved once they get to the location. This makes for a very complicated and sometimes frustrating situation for all involved. TEACHERS, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DELIVER WORK, NOT YOUR STUDENTS. They can help, but we will not accept work unless it is delivered by the teacher or another responsible adult.
NO EARLY BIRDS On the delivery and pick up days, unless you are coming to volunteer, please do not come before or after the designated times.
